More than 100 widows, widowers and single parents gathered at Mhene Village in the Poshai area of Nhema, Shurugwi, from 7 to 10 October 2026 for the annual retreat of the Widow(ers) Single Parents Association (WISPA).

The association brings together widows, widowers and single parents, including those who are divorced and those who have never married.

Rain on the opening day did not stop the programme. Over the four days, participants carried out community outreach through an evangelistic initiative known as Zunde, and attended sessions on resilience, health and wellbeing.

The retreat also gave participants time to build friendships and support networks with others in similar circumstances.
