A Spirit-Filled, Life-Changing Gathering: Pathfinders Ignite in Zimbabwe

The 4th Southern Africa-Indian Ocean Division (SID) Pathfinder Camporee was more than just a camp—it was a spirit-filled, life-changing encounter that transformed a field in Zimbabwe into holy ground. Under the theme “Saved to Serve“, nearly 5,000 Pathfinders from around the world gathered for a week of worship, fellowship, and transformation.

The experience began with a vibrant celebration marked by heartfelt reverence. Upon arriving at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, Pastor Busi Khumalo, General Conference Youth Ministries Director, and Dr. Harrington Simui Akombwa, the Southern Africa-Indian Ocean Division President, were welcomed with honor by a majestic Guard of Honor—140 uniformed Pathfinders from Harare. As flags waved and drums rolled, the moment set the tone for the powerful week ahead.

At Glen City, just outside the outskirts of Harare, the campsite came alive as delegates arrived from across the SID territory and beyond—from Brazil and the Bahamas to Jamaica, Kenya, and the United States. Cultures blended and friendships blossomed in an atmosphere filled with music, prayer, and purpose.

Each Pathfinder received a thoughtfully prepared welcome pack, which included a branded Bible, a collectible spinning Camporee pin, and a symbolic “passport” for their spiritual journey. With thousands of tents pitched and voices united in praise, Glen City became more than a campsite—it became a sanctuary.

The opening ceremony featured Zimbabwe’s Minister of Youth, Hon. Tino Machakaire, who inspired the youth to live with purpose and resist destructive influences. His message resonated throughout the week as Pastor Khumalo brought the story of Joseph to life in his devotionals, challenging Pathfinders to remain faithful and courageous in service.

Each evening, the camp was captivated by a five-part theatrical portrayal of Joseph’s life. More than just drama, it was discipleship through storytelling—powerfully illustrating themes of forgiveness, resilience, and divine calling.

Throughout the week, Pathfinders pursued over 60 honors. The Science Village alone offered more than 30 science-related honors. For the first time in SID history, advanced technical honors—such as Drones, Robotics, and Artificial Intelligence—were introduced, equipping young people to serve with both passion, skill and state of the art technology.

The most sacred moment came when 117 Pathfinders, including five from Kenya, chose to be baptized, publicly declaring their faith in Jesus. Despite the cold and long lines, joy radiated across the camp as heaven rejoiced.

The grand finale featured a music festival and a stunning fireworks display, marking the close of a truly transformative week. The 2025 SID Pathfinder Camporee was far more than a gathering—it was a divine encounter. Pathfinders returned home as disciples: saved, called, and ready to serve.
