The Kanye Seventh-day Adventist College of Nursing has appointed Pastor Amos Mapharing as its inaugural Vice Principal for Spirituality and Welfare, marking a significant step in the institution's approach to holistic Adventist education and student support.

The newly established office will oversee chaplaincy services, student welfare, and the emotional, spiritual, and psychosocial well-being of staff. Pastor Mapharing will work closely with the college's Human Resources department to strengthen support systems across the campus community.

The appointment comes at a critical stage in the college's development, following two years of rapid growth in enrolment, staffing, academic programmes, and infrastructure. Institution leaders described the role as long overdue but recently accelerated in response to the demands arising from the college's expansion.

The official introduction of Pastor Mapharing to college staff was conducted by Dr. Tapologo Kago Simankane, Botswana Union Conference Director for Youth, Communication, and Chaplaincy, on behalf of Union leadership.

Botswana Union Conference President Pastor Phemelo Seboka, who was away in Mozambique participating in evangelistic campaigns, conveyed his support and appreciation for the significant growth experienced by the institution. In his message, Seboka described the appointment as a historic moment in the life of the college and expressed confidence that the new office would strengthen both its mission and its spiritual identity. He also extended his prayers and best wishes to the leadership team and the broader school community.

A dedicatory prayer for the new Vice Principal and the college leadership was led by Dr. Simankane and Pastor O. N. Simankane.

Pastor Mapharing brings both pastoral experience and academic expertise to the role, holding a Master's degree in Educational Psychology. His background in ministry and psychosocial support positions him to nurture students and staff holistically while strengthening the spiritual life of the college.

The creation of the office reflects a broader institutional shift underway at Kanye. Since Principal Carol Shabane took office on 2 September 2024, student enrolment at the college has more than tripled, from 213 to 702, and staff numbers have almost doubled, from 56 to 107. Alongside the long-established Diploma in General Nursing, the institution has introduced a Degree in General Nursing, a Degree in Public Health, and a Certificate in Health Care Assistance. Infrastructure has also been expanded to support the growth.

The Kanye College has for many years held a respected reputation in Botswana for producing competent nurses known for quality healthcare and compassionate service delivery. Leaders say the new Vice Principal office will further strengthen student support systems and reinforce Christian values within professional healthcare training.

The appointment of Pastor Amos Mapharing is seen by church and school leaders as a timely investment in institutional wellness, mentorship, spiritual nurture, and psychosocial care as Kanye continues to grow.
