Seventh-day Adventist Church employees from across the Botswana Union Conference gathered for an Adventist Risk Management (ARM) training organized by the Union Treasury Department.

The training aimed to strengthen workers’ understanding of risk management, financial protection, and employee benefit solutions designed to support both individuals and the broader mission of the Adventist Church.

In his welcome remarks, Botswana Union Conference President Phemelo Seboka encouraged participants to approach the training with commitment and purpose.

“Opportunities like this are investments in both your personal future and the mission of the Church,” he said. “Maximize this moment. Learn, ask questions, and position yourselves wisely for the years ahead.”

Training focuses on risk management and benefits

Throughout the training, representatives from Adventist Risk Management delivered presentations covering a range of products and services available to church institutions and employees. The sessions addressed risk assessment, asset protection, institutional coverage, and employee benefit schemes.

A subject that drew particular interest was retirement planning. Participants engaged actively as presenters outlined retirement products, savings strategies, and long-term financial security options designed specifically for church workers. Many attendees expressed appreciation for the clarity provided on preparing for life beyond active service.

One participant noted, “Retirement is often something we postpone thinking about, but today’s session helped me realize the importance of planning responsibly and early.”

The ARM team emphasized that proper risk management is not merely administrative compliance but a stewardship responsibility. By safeguarding institutions, employees, and resources, the Church strengthens its ability to sustainably fulfill its gospel mission.

Emphasizing stewardship and financial literacy

Mogojwa highlighted the importance of financial literacy and proactive planning among church workers. She noted that the Treasury Department remains committed to ensuring that workers are well-informed about the benefits and protections available to them.

“This training is about empowerment,” she explained. “When our workers understand the tools available to them—especially in areas like retirement and institutional risk coverage—they are better positioned to serve with confidence and peace of mind.”

The event reflected a broader commitment within the Adventist Church to align financial systems, employee welfare, and mission advancement. By equipping workers with knowledge and resources, the Union seeks to cultivate stability, accountability, and long-term sustainability across its fields and institutions.

Fellowship and collaboration

Beyond the formal presentations, the gathering fostered meaningful interaction among church workers from diverse sectors—pastoral ministry, education, healthcare, and administration. The event concluded with a dinner designed to strengthen relationships and encourage fellowship.

The evening was marked by warm conversation, renewed connections, and a shared sense of unity in mission. Participants described the atmosphere as uplifting and encouraging, with many appreciating the opportunity to network with colleagues from different departments and institutions.

“The fellowship was as valuable as the presentations,” remarked one attendee. “We were reminded that we are one family serving the same mission.”

Looking ahead

As the Botswana Union Conference continues to prioritize accountability, worker welfare, and institutional excellence, initiatives such as the ARM training demonstrate a proactive approach to stewardship and sustainability. Adventist Church leaders expressed optimism that the knowledge gained will translate into improved risk management practices and greater financial preparedness across all sectors of the Union.
