Over 100 pastors, elders, theology students, and church leaders from across the Southern Africa Union Conference (SAU) gathered in Cape Town from 15 to 18 July 2026 for the Preachers Evangelism and Leadership Convention (PELC), a four-day programme of preaching, evangelism, and leadership development.
The convention was hosted by the SAU President's office in partnership with Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama, extending a rolling series of PELC conventions delivered across the Union's territory. Each day of the programme combined worship, prayer, and biblical instruction with sessions on pastoral leadership, sermon preparation, and church strategy.
The convention drew a distinguished panel of presenters. Dr. Jesse Wilson challenged delegates to become agents of change and to lead their congregations with vision, courage, and compassion while remaining anchored in Scripture. Professor Amanda Hawley focused on the practical mechanics of preaching ministry, offering guidance on sermon organisation and the development of intentional church calendars. Pastor Orville Brissett addressed faithful pastoral leadership, while Professor Julian Jones-Campbell led devotional sessions and theological reflections throughout the convention.
Additional sessions were delivered by Professor Conrad Zygmont and Pastor Rudolph Peter, who examined biblically grounded leadership; and by Elder Dana Edmond and Pastor Michelle Mota, who spoke to the realities and opportunities facing today's church leaders. Delegates also participated in discussion groups and networking exchanges through the four days.
One of the convention's most memorable moments came as the Sabbath approached. Delegates welcomed the Sabbath with a music-filled worship service led by Dr. Jesse Wilson and Dr. Paul Shongwe, closing with impromptu musical items from participants and a circle of prayer that captured the fellowship and shared mission of the gathered leaders.
The convention concluded with delegates returning to their fields of service — many reflecting on the practical training, spiritual encouragement, and the connections formed during the gathering.
